Hepatic Insufficiency Following a single 15-mg oral dose of Remeron, the oral clearance of mirtazapine seroquel and remeron decreased by approximately 30% in hepatically impaired patients compared to subjects with normal hepatic function. What other drugs will affect mirtazapine? Cold or allergy medicine, sedatives, narcotic pain medicine, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, and medicine for seizures or anxiety can add to sleepiness caused by mirtazapine. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088. Otherwise, skip the dose. If you have questions about the drugs you are taking, check with your doctor, nurse or pharmacist. In this patient, elevated liver enzymes were discovered 3 months after starting mirtazapine (30 mg/day) and following a dose reduction (15 mg/day) liver enzymes decreased, but remained above normal. Mirtazapine is used to treat major depressive disorder. John's wort; tramadol (Ultram, Ultracet); a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin); an antibiotic such as clarithromycin (Biaxin), dalfopristin/quinupristin (Synercid), erythromycin (E.E.S., EryPed, Ery-Tab, Erythrocin), or telithromycin (Ketek); an antidepressant such seroquel and remeron seroquel and remeron (Elavil, Vanatrip), citalopram (Celexa), doxepin (Sinequan), desipramine (Norpramin), fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem, Symbyax), imipramine (Janimine, Tofranil), nefazodone, nortriptyline (Pamelor), paroxetine (Paxil), sertraline (Zoloft), venlafaxine (Effexor), and others; antifungal medication such as clotrimazole (Mycelex Troche), itraconazole (Sporanox), ketoconazole (Extina, Ketozole, Nizoral, Xolegal), or voriconazole (Vfend); heart or seroquel and remeron pressure medication such as diltiazem (Cartia, Cardizem), felodipine (Plendil), seroquel and remeron (Nifedical, Procardia), verapamil (Calan, Covera, Isoptin, Verelan), and others; HIV/AIDS medicine such as atazanavir (Reyataz), delavirdine (Rescriptor), fosamprenavir (Lexiva), indinavir (Crixivan), nelfinavir (Viracept), saquinavir (Invirase), or ritonavir (Norvir); migraine headache medicine such as almotriptan (Axert), eletriptan (Relpax), frovatriptan (Frova), naratriptan (Amerge), rizatriptan (Maxalt), sumatriptan (Imitrex), or zolmitriptan (Zomig). Monitor cardiac rhythm and vital signs. Call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as: agitation, hallucinations, fever, fast heart rate, overactive reflexes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of coordination, fainting; fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms; white patches or sores inside your mouth or on your lips; or headache, trouble concentrating, memory problems, weakness, feeling unsteady, or confusion. Its molecular weight is 265.36. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within about 2 hours following an oral dose. Patients have described a sensation of swelling in the mouth, numbness, and anesthesia. Proper storage of Remeron: Store Remeron at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). It is thought to increase the activity of certain chemicals in the brain (norepinephrine, serotonin), which help elevate mood. Because of the potentially significant effects of Remeron on impairment of performance, patients should be cautioned about engaging in activities requiring alertness until they have been able to assess the drug's effect on their own psychomotor performance (see Information for Patients). This list is not complete and other drugs may interact with mirtazapine. Cholesterol/Triglycerides In US controlled studies, nonfasting cholesterol increases to ≥20% above the upper limits of normal were observed in 15% of patients treated with Remeron, compared to 7% for placebo and 8% for amitriptyline. Numerous cases of mirtazapine- induced arthralgia have been reported. Don't drive or participate in any hazardous activity that requires full mental alertness until you know whether Remeron has this effect on you. Nearly all selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, mixed serotonin/norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, and tricyclic antidepressants cause sleep abnormalities to some extent. This includes prescription, seroquel and remeron vitamin, and herbal products. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Agranulocytosis occurred in two patients and neutropenia in one patient during premarketing clinical trials. The mean increase in weight was 4 kg (2 kg SD) for Remeron-treated patients versus 1 kg (2 kg SD) for placebo-treated patients (see PRECAUTIONS: Increased Appetite/Weight Gain). Keep a list of all medicines to show the healthcare provider.
